New Day Expands Support To 93% of Michigan Counties

New Day has expanded its reach to 93 percent of Michigan counties, providing more than $10 million in direct financial support since 2007 to families facing cancer. The nonprofit’s 2025 Impact Report, released  in November 2025, highlights record growth in both financial and emotional support, ensuring families don’t have to choose between their health and their home.

2025 Year-to-Date Highlights

  • 2,683 family bills paid directly to creditors including:
    • Nearly 700 mortgage / rent payments
    • 780 utility bill payments
    • 367 transportation payments
  • Over 1,300 grocery gift cards provided to families
  • 3 major foundation partnerships strengthening long‑term stability added this year:    A.A. Van Elslander Foundation, Wayne & Joan Webber Foundation and Carls Foundation

Strengthening Communities Statewide

By partnering with community foundations deeply connected to local residents, New Day extends its reach into underserved areas. Families from rural counties to urban centers now have access to critical cancer support services, with a goal of reaching 100% of Michigan counties in the coming year.

West Michigan Impact

In West Michigan alone since 2007, New Day provided $1.3 million in direct support across 13 counties, serving more than 3,200 people — including over 1,000 pediatric patients and siblings. In 2025, the nonprofit hired a dedicated regional development officer and launched a West Michigan Advisory Council to deepen community partnerships and expand services.

Meeting Urgent Needs

This year, New Day will help more than 2,000 cancer patients, caregivers, and family members improve their financial and emotional health. The need is clear:

  • 87 percent of families supported by New Day lost income due to their diagnosis
  • Cancer patients in financial distress are twice as likely to die
  • 1 in 3 adults skip treatment because of cost
  • 1 in 3 families cannot afford basic needs during cancer care

New Day addresses these challenges by paying mortgages, rent, utilities, and transportation costs directly to creditors, while also providing grocery assistance and emotional support.
