Boy Facing Cancer Honored at Red Wings Alumni Game
Ziggy was diagnosed with leukemia at the tender age of four. Since then, his family has been at his side through chemo treatments and multiple trips to the ER.
Ziggy’s intense treatment schedule has meant that his mom has not been able to work full time at her paralegal job since his diagnosis, creating a significant loss of income for the family. Dad has tried to maintain 40 hours per week at work, but they also have a one-year-old child at home to care for, so the balance has been difficult. As hourly workers, neither parent is paid when they are unable to work.
The family has also had to purchase two cars this year – one due to an accident and the other as a result of costly repairs that were needed. When the family came to New Day this fall, they were behind on their car payments and facing another mortgage payment soon. The financial and emotional stress was causing sleepless nights for mom, who was trying to get some work in after the kids were in bed.
New Day is helping the family with their car payments and providing grocery support to keep food on the table during this gap in income. The family will also be part of the Hope for the Holidays program, which fulfills the wish lists of all family members through generous New Day donors.
